Memorial Day & Baseball Brawls

Image
By: Kaila Morales  Memorial Day baseball took a turn yesterday when benches were cleared during the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals game.  It has been said that both Bryce Harper and Hunter Strickland have had beef with each other since 2014.  The tension between the two rose when Harper hit two homers off of Strickland during the National League Division Series.  Three years later it looks like the two still have some unfinished business. Harper got a little heated when Strickland’s 98 mph fastball hit him in the hip.  Harper gestured toward Strickland with his bat before charging the mound. He attempted to throw his helmet at Strickland, but it was a failed attempt... miserably.  The two threw a couple punches, and the benches started to clear as everyone raced to the mound. Everyone except for Giants catcher Buster Posey who stood at the plate calm and collectively.  He then proceeded to walk in the opposite direction, avoiding the altercatio

Dodger's Walk-off, A hurt Joc Pederson?

By: Kaila Morales My first story about the Los Angeles Dodgers... Well here it goes!  So the Dodgers had an interesting game last night.  Clayton Kershaw got the start and well no shocker that he was able to pitch the whole 9 innings. I mean who needs closers when you have Kershaw? But just as the game was coming to a close, and Kershaw would have a shutout, that opportunity would be thrown away. A wildpitch in the 9th allowed the St. Louis Cardinals to score and tie up the game at 1-1. The Dodgers got their run early in the 1st, with a solo home-run by Yasmani Grandal.  Ultimately the game went extra innings and the Dodgers were able to grab the win in the 13th. Logan Forsythe hit a walk-off double, in his first game back after coming off the disabled list. Forsythe with a broken toe was assigned to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for his rehabbing assignment. Playing a total of five games with the Quakes. Adrian Gonzalez played along side Forsythe in three of the five. Gon

“Free Baseball coming to an end?”

Image
By: Kaila Morales   We’ve come to know that “free baseball” refers to extra innings.  Extra innings is any playing time that goes after the standard nine innings, which determines the score in a tying-run situation.  Games go however many extra innings needed, until one team scores.  With a few games recorded as the longest game in MLB history at a total of 25 innings. This season so far has had a total of 49 games going to extra innings.  As much as we love to see free baseball, it may come to an end. Talk about doing away with extra innings came about days after the New York Yankees and the Chicago Cubs battled it out in a six hour, 18 inning game on Sunday night.  The game ended well into Monday morning at 1:14 AM Central time.  Both teams used 42 players combined, with 583 pitches thrown for a total of 128 at bats.  This set the MLB record for strikeouts at 48.  While this makes for an exciting game for the fans, the excitement may not exa

First Doubleheader Sweep as CSUSB Wraps up the Season

By: Kaila Morales Earning their first doubleheader sweep of the season, Cal State San Bernardino baseball goes 3 for 4 against Cal State San Marcos. As CSUSB wraps up their 2017 season with a record of (11-23 in California Collegiate Athletic Association, and 14-32 overall).  This outcome is not what the Coyotes hoped for after holding a record of (17-20 CCAA,  22-29 overall) last season. Coyotes started their four game series against the Cougars on Friday, the opener resulted in a 7-3 loss. All three of the Coyotes runs were scored by Dillon Fahr, with Dominic Campeau accounting for the two RBI’s. “This season has just been disappointing, we had a lot of freshman starting so making the adjustment to such a good conference can be a big adjustment at times,” Martinez said.  Adversities aside CSUSB was able to earn its first doubleheader sweep of the season on Saturday, with a score of 14-7 for game 1 and 8-4 for game 2.   With five strikeouts Starter J
