Coyotes get a win and split the series against Cal State L.A

The Cal State San Bernardino baseball team gets their first win, winning two out of the four, for a split series against Cal State Los Angeles. 

This series was the opening for the CCAA. (California Collegiate Athletes Association) 

The Coyotes faced the Eagles for the first match up on Thursday night at Reeder Field.

RHP Matthew Moriarty got the start throwing 4 1/3 innings, he had five strikeouts, five walks, and gave up three runs. 

An RBI single by Lucas Martinez in the third, put the Coyotes on the board, after trailing by two. 

Jordan Simon’s ground out in the fourth which scored Dominic Campeau, tied the Coyotes up at 2-2.

The Eagles earned a run in the fifth, resulting in the 3-2 loss for the Coyotes. 

CSUSB’s losing streak came to an end on Friday night when they secured a 13-3 win against the Eagles.

A.J Duran started things off in the second with a double, He went 3-for 4- with three RBI’s. 

The Coyotes then earned a total of nine runs in the third. 

 Dominic Campeau had two singles in the third, and later blasted a two-run homer to extend the lead in the seventh. 

Campeau went 3-for-5, with a total of four RBI’s. 

“Not trying to do too much but sill getting a good aggressive swing,” Campeau said about his 3-for-5 efforts. 

“When we hit as a unit, it starts to get contagious,” he added 

Dillon Fahr, Daniel Romo, and Kristian DeLaTorre all had RBI singles in the game. 


RHP Sabino Ramirez earned the win throwing seven innings, striking out six, and giving up two runs. 

“It felt really good to get that first one. We have a young team and we were finally able to put it all together and start conference on a good note,” Duran said. 


The Coyotes ended the series with a win and a loss with Saturday’s doubleheader. 

LHP Don Sullivan got the start for game one of the doubleheader. 

Sullivan pitched a total of 5 innings giving up six runs, and striking out three.

The Coyotes had a total of six hits, but none accounting for runs.

Resulting in a 10-0 loss against the Eagles. 

Game two of the doubleheader had a better outcome for the Coyotes. 

CSUSB got things going in the fourth after being down by three. 

Tyler Van Marter’s single to center scored Romo. 

Van Marter was able to score on error, while Jordan Simon brought in the second run after reaching on by a double.  

Eli Zaragoza then got the Coyotes all tied up at 3-3, with a RBI single

CSUSB added on three more runs in the fifth, two runs coming from fielder's choice, and the other a stolen base. 

CSUSB defeated CSULA 6-3.  

 RHP Jon Ferrendelli earned the win throwing 5 1/3 innings, striking out six and giving up three runs. 

Reliever Austin Casillas earned the save with no hits over 1 2/3 innings. 


Regrouping as a team, and coming into the series with a different mindset ultimately helped the Coyotes produce the two wins. 


“We came into the weekend with a different mindset of what it was going to take to make an early impact in the conference,” Duran said.
